37 King Street Attached Housing

Warrior Home

July 2023 – April 2024

This project was designed by Warrior Home for the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlons 2024 Design Challenge. In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Warrior Home designed two four-storey, multi-unit residential buildings to be used as affordable housing. These buildings are to be built on Habitat for Humanity’s surplus property in the Halton-Mississauga Dufferin region in Ontario. Each housing unit is to be prefabricated off-site by student volunteers and assembled altogether on site.

As Structural Lead for this project, I proposed the use of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) for the foundation, aiding in energy savings and speed of construction. I directed the design of these foundations, as well as designed the light wood framing to be used for the units. I managed and assisted in designing the wood frame and concrete shear walls, diaphragms, and holddown/tension tie connections. Finally, I oversaw the design of the site-installed cathedral roof.
